The arrival of COVID-19 presented a complex set of challenges to social services providers. With caution and creativity, Catholic Charities of St. Louis adapted how – and sometimes where – services were provided, always with the goal of maximizing the ability to serve those with the greatest need.
Throughout 2020, Catholic Charities distributed more than $517,000 in private funds to 1, 038 households for rental, mortgage, and some utility assistance. Additionally, almost $70,000 in grocery and other gift cards were distributed to help those impacted by COVID-19. Expanding tele-services was a high priority during 2020 and has continued into 2021. In 2020, more than 61,000 tele-service sessions took place with clients who would typically be assisted in person.
The unrestricted gifts received helped navigating the continued challenges of COVID-19 possible.
