SALI helps survivors of sexual violence seek justice

MCASA's Mission & Work

MCASA's Sexual Assault Legal Institute (SALI) has served more than 4,310 clients. Here is a story of how your donations are helping survivors:

I tried reporting what happened to the police, but they blamed me for being drunk and there were no criminal charges. I tried to speak out as part of the #MeToo movement, but then my rapist sent a cease and desist letter and tried to silence me.
SALI was there to answer my questions every step of the way. They represented me for free when my rapist filed for a peace order against me, claiming that telling my story was harassment, and, when the first judge agreed with him and granted the order, they filed an appeal and WON! Thanks to SALI, I can tell my story again, and my rapist knows what it's like to have some power taken away.

SALI attorneys are here to help survivors like this one navigate the court system. Survivors have the right to be treated with dignity, respect and sensitivity during the criminal justice process, and SALI helps protect those rights by providing comprehensive legal services to survivors of sexual violence statewide.
