The first case that I had was an adolescent girl who was 17, and she had been through things most adults haven't and talking to her very honestly and sort of meeting her where she was emotionally seemed to work.
She told me that she wants me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, which is an honor. And I told her, I'm going to be far too old to be doing that. But she's taught me more about what it means to survive and get back up, dust yourself off and try again than I could ever have given her.
The best part of being a CASA is being able to connect with another human being who maybe doesn't have an adult that is always there and that always picks up the phone.
Everybody that's involved with this organization is passionate about helping kids. And if you want to help kids and you want to make your community better, this is the way to do it.
