Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and the 2nd leading cause of death for 14-24 year-olds. 48,344 people died by suicide in the US in 2018. More people die by suicide than: Homicides Car accidents Breast Cancer. 2,888 will attempt suicide today and 130 will lose their battle. 17 will be youth 20 will be veterans. Research has shown that there is an 80-90% effectiveness rate in treating depression using a combination of medication and psychotherapy. SAVE focuses its efforts and resources on these main program areas...Public Awareness Through our signature events and programs, SAVE is raising awareness of suicide across the nation in communities just like yours. SAVE generates over 150 million public awareness messages every year. EDUCATION SAVE provides in -depth discussion and educational programming for youth, community organizations and the general public. SAVE educates over 15,000 people each year. TRAINING AND CONSULTING SAVE equips teachers, law, enforcement, doctors, and other stakeholders with the tools they need to prevent suicide. GRIEF SUPPORT Through our resources and support services, SAVE helps families and individuals across the nation cope with suicide loss.
