Nothing showcases how you can help a farmer, their family, and a community transform quite like the story of Agatha and her community of farmers. Agatha is a mother of nine and a farmer in Burkina Faso. There is a strong, caring energy about her that people gravitate towards, which is why she has become a leader in her community. The ability to lead her community's improvement has always been there. But with Groundswell International's support, she has been able to turn that ability into action through a Groundswell-introduced fellowship, community-farm and water-well initiative.

Forty-one-year-old Seng has been raising her two children with 162 anti-personnel landmines surrounding their home in Cambodia.

Before moving to her current home in Chob Kokir, Seng had moved around frequently, following her husband’s career. Finally settling in one place and having a home of her own was hugely important to her; it gave her the opportunity to put down roots, to cultivate land and secure a steadier income for her family.

Each November is designated as Native American Heritage Month and is a time to honor and celebrate diverse Native American cultures and values. The month gives us an opportunity provide education about the vast contributions Native Peoples have made, and provide opportunities to learn more about both historical and ongoing challenges that affect Native Peoples today. A persistent cough told Brandi that it was time to visit her primary care physician. Several tests and doctor visits later, Brandi got her diagnosis: Stage 3B ALK+ lung cancer. At the time, Brandi was a 38-year-old mother of four, working as a contractor for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). She has never smoked. But, she said, “I had no clue - None! - that non-smokers could get lung cancer! I had breast cancer on my radar!” The truth is that lung cancer surpassed breast cancer as the leading cancer killer among women in 1987.
